The superiority of the Lord Jesus
Johan came as a student to Capernwray Bible School in 1982, fresh from spending several years living as a hippie in the Sinai desert, where he found Christ. His mother had slipped a copy of the Bible into his rucksack before he set off from his native Holland on a round the world trip, in order to discover what life was all about. It was in the desert, and from reading the Bible his mother had given to him that he found Christ. After which he spent several years living in the Sinai, preaching Christ to whoever would listen, Jews and Gentiles alike. For the Jews, Isaiaah chapter 53 was a real focal point.
At Bible School he formed part of a student team who joined a Luis Palau Crusade in Leeds, where his zeal to share Christ with everyone he could was give expression. “To know Christ and to make Him known” took him most Saturday afternoons in Bible School down to Lancaster, come hail, rain or sunshine, to share Christ with whoever was around at the time.
The Book of Hebrews has been described by some as one of the most profound Books of the Bible, or even as the fifth Gospel, declaring the superiority of Christ. This is what Johan so loves to do, so it is now through the pages of this practical Book that he is able for his zeal to give further expression. May his book be a real help to those who have hitherto struggled to understand it, and may Christ be known, revealed, and revered as a result.
